A cocktail strainer is a type of strainer that is used to filter out pieces of ice and other solid matter from cocktails before they are served.
Cocktail strainers are usually made of stainless steel metal and has holes that are large enough to let liquid pass through but small enough to filter out solid particles.
We think that cocktail strainers are a must-have for bartenders and home bartenders.
There are two types of cocktail strainers:
A julep strainer is a stainless steel perforated bowl-shaped tool with a handle used to separate the solid particles from liquid mixtures.
The julep strainer size is usually 6-7 inches long (including the handle) and 3-4 inches wide.
In order to use a julep strainer, you will need to:
1. Fill a mixing glass with your favorite cocktail ingredients and ice cubes, and mix.
2. Place the julep strainer face down on top of the mixing glass. Next, hold the glass and support the julep strainer using your index finger and strain the cocktail.
Hawthorne Strainer is a tool with a coiled wire filter that is used to filter out particles from the liquid.
The Hawthorne strainer size is usually 6-7 inches long and 3-5 inches wide.
Here the technique is quite similar:
Place the Hawthorne Strainer over the top of the mixing glass whose contents you want to strain.
Push the “tab” down to close the gap between the strainer and the glass, to prevent unwanted ingredients from draining into the drink, and then strain.
