The New York Sour is a two-layered cocktail with a wonderful fruity taste. It is made with bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white, and red wine. It is believed that the drink was first published in 1869 in the “How to Mix Drinks” book by Jerry Thomas.

New York Sour Recipe

  1. 60 ml bourbon

  2. 30 ml fresh lemon juice

  3. 20 ml simple syrup

  4. 1 egg white (optional)

  5. 30 ml fruity red wine

  6. Ice

  7. Garnish: lemon twist

How to Make a New York Sour

  1. Add the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for about 20 seconds until chilled.

  2. Strain the mix into an ice-filled lowball glass.

  3. Gently pour the red wine above a back of a spoon on the top layer of the cocktail surface.

  4. Garnish with the lemon twist.
