Don Q is a Puerto Rican rum produced by Destileria Serrallés created from molasses. The distiller produces seven Don Q rum products:
Don Q is short for the famous Spanish novel character “Don Quixote.” Don Q competes against such brands as Bacardi in the United States, Puerto Rico and internationally.
In 1865, Don Juan Serrallés produced his very first cask of aged rum using a copper still he imported from France and some American oak barrels. The high standard created by Don Juan Serrallés have been used to create the Don Q Puerto Rican rum brand.
Don Juan Serrallés established his distillery in the Hacienda Mercedita sugar plantation near the city of Ponce on Puerto Rico's south coast. Don Juan Serrallés was the son of a Spaniard who settled in the area.
Destileria Serrallés is an old distillery that has been producing spirits for over a century and is still in the family today, owned by Felix Juan Serrallés. Felix is the great grandson of Don Juan Serrallés. The distillery had annual sales totaling over $100 million in 1998 and is responsible for the creation and distribution of 80 different products.
Don Q is currently available in just about every state across the United States. Control states are special order at this time but they are listed in Michigan and Ohio. Don Q should arrive in New Hampshire early Spring of 2010.
